As some know there is a debate going on about whether Christian hip hop should be accepted in the church. It seems as if you label yourself Christian Rap you are ok, but hip hop, you are not, now I already know where hip hop originates and about the people who started it. But I am really confused about what is and what is not ok, in the church, in regards to rap/hip hop period. You have some people who label themselves everything. If calling your self a Christian, is already supposed to set yourself apart from the secular side, what is the problem. I dunno?

Recently, I read an article where it says that a lot of churches don't accept Christian Hip Hop or Gospel Hip Hop into their churches. When most people think of "Hip Hop", what comes to mind? For one: lots of bling, nice cars, nice houses, drugs, hot girls. The image of "hip hop" takes away from what it stands for as a form of art, expression, type of musical genre. Mainstream, it might carry a negative image, but not all artists promote this type of materialistic thinking.
For years, people have been borrowing things from other cultures. Why can't we borrow things from other genres of music?

I agree. Whether you call it hip hop or rap,its perceived as being the same. Hip Hop has a major impact globally, and it is the only genre I know of that breaks down barriers. What I mean by that is that racial, socio-economic, religious barriers, etc...are broken when it comes to hip hop. More, importantly its impact on the world at large, brings light to why it is vitally important that the church continues to elevate those labels, artists, alike whose passion is to bring glory to Christ alone, and minister the infallible Word of God through lyrically theology.
